Dude, where is my hair? 一覺醒來變光頭

Shaving baby's hair on 7th day after the birth is a muslim tradition. Coincidentally, shaving baby's hair at one month is in Taiwanese culture.  So, Emre's hair had no chance!

Baby Emre was born with a full head of beautiful hair. Nice soft baby hair. I loved to rub my face against it and breath into it. But one day Nihal had the idea of shaving baby's hair by himself.

Shave baby's head at the 7th day is a muslim tradition. It has a pretty good meaning behind. The shaved baby hair is collected and weighted, and gold or silver of equal weight will be donated to the poor. This good deed is meant to bring protection to the baby.

In Taiwanese culture, we believe shave baby hair promotes the growth of future, permanent hair. So the baby will have luscious hair later on. I was shaved and I had pretty good hair now. (To my friend in science, I am just saying there is a correlation, not causation.) In fact, there are many cultures also shave, such as China, India and Hispanic countries.

Baby Emre's pre-shave pictures.
Let's get the shaving started. All we need are: a baby with hair, a baby hair comb from hospital and a shaver. Because a wiggly baby is probably not going to cooperate, we swaddled Emre in receiving blanket* and put him to sleep. When he was sound asleep we got down to the dirty business. Nihal brushed the hair against the hair stream and pushed the shaver through. I was laughing uncontrollably next to them. It started with a line with no hair and then a patch and then half head and then full head. The end product was not too pretty, there were patches with longer hair and patches with no hair. I guess there is a good reason for the existence of baby barber. We should had let professional barber do the job.

Ha ha ha ha ha...... So sorry, but you look FUNNY!
The good thing about baby is that he does not care. He is as happy as a baby with hair like Bon Jovi. And he is not bad looking with a bald head. Agreed?

Mommy's handsome bald baby!
*The receiving blanket is one of the best gift we got. It's from Aden and Anais. 100% soft muslin and good for tight swaddle.
